An Operating System is the software that communicates with the hardware of a PC and functions as the intermediary between apps and the hardware, including peripherals such as a printer, a computer mouse or a keyboard. When you run an application, it sends requests to the OS through an API (Application Program Interface) and the contact is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Similar to a personal computer, hosting servers also use an Operating System that functions as a host for any software installed on them, including script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etc. A virtual machine can be created on a physical one, so it is possible to install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast with the physical server host OS.
Multiple OS in VPS
Our virtual private server plans include three Linux distributions that you could select from for the Operating System of your new web server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Aside from being totally free, the OSs are very stable and risk-free and the primary reason to offer you the 3 of them is to make sure that you can run each app that you would like, since different pieces of software could have different requirements with regards to the environment they can be used on. Each one of the three OSs is backed by a large community of web developers who have made thousands of software packages which you can set up and use on your VPS. In accordance with the Operating System that you choose, you will also be able to select between 3 different Control Panels to take care of your hosting content. Needless to say, should you decide that you need a different OS, we could always reinstall the server with it. As an additional upgrade, we also provide weekly updates of the Operating System for maximum stability and security.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Hosting
The dedicated servers we offer come with as many as three different Operating Systems because we want to give you more versatile packages which will let you install and run any type of web software whatever its system requirements. The choices are CentOS, Debian and Ubuntu and these three OSs are among the most stable and risk-free ones, not mentioning that they do not have any license charges. All three have thousands of developers that have created numerous software packages that you can install and use on your web server. We also offer three web hosting Control Panels and which one you can use is determined by the Operating System that you select when you register. If you need another OS afterwards, it will not be a problem since we can always reinstall your server. With our Managed Services package we can also keep your OS secure by upgrading it every week with any patches which are released for it.
